Trip To Fort Worth

Had a great trip up to Fort Worth for my High School class to celebrate our 80th birthday. Got to visit two of my favorite Cigar Shops, Big Dave’s and Good Karma. Big Dave’s is a down to basics cigar store with a very good selection of interesting brands at reasonable prices. Good Karma is one of my favorite cigar lounges in the great state of Texas. It is in an old house, almost in the shadow of the Tarrant County Court House and just has a great welcoming atmosphere and an excellent selection in two humidors.

At Big Dave's, they had a white board in the front window that highlighted their new products including a Rojas Maduro Custom Blend that I was not familiar with. Great idea for all of my cigar lounges to highlight new products so their regular customers will see something new they may want to try. The other side of the white board included items that were "Back In Stock", another great idea to help customers. I would like to see that info made available in all our locations.

At Good Karma, they also had an innovative idea that I would also like to see at all our lounges, a Weekly Mystery Series. It was a Lucite box that contained about 8 or so cigars, no wrappers and no identification at all--a Mystery for sure! They were $10 a stick and when the box was sold out, they would publish the identity and tasting notes on their web site and to their mailing list. Great idea. Can't wait to smoke my mystery stick and see what it turns out to be. From the nose alone, I am guessing it is the H Upmann Banker cigar that they call the Day Trader. More on that amazing coincidence and they joy of nosing later in another post.

At Big Dave's I picked up a Don Pepin Peric Nicaragua, a Perdomo Habano, a Micallef [more on that in another blog also] and a Deadwood Sweet Jane for my wife.

At Good Karma, I grabbed a couple of Serino Behike sizes, a Foundation Tabernacle CT, a Cohiba Rivera and a couple of others. Look for reviews of all of these as soon as it gets cool enough to enjoy them outside and gather some notes.

All in all, a great trip and I got to compare notes with Arnold Poynor one of my Advisors and spend time with his family, all great folks.
